Dr. Mendleson opened his first office in Upper Tantallon in 1980, located in the Redmond Professional Centre. In 2011, he opened his present office in St. Margaret’s Square, and warmly welcomed his associate Dr. Megan Nearing. In 2014, Dr. Mendleson was extremely pleased to welcome his associate, Dr. Virginia Beaumont.

Dr. Mendleson

Dr. Mendleson
Dr. Irwin Mendleson has owned and operated his well-known practice for over 35 years. The success is due largely to his caring and compassionate personality (which is reflective through his staff) and has earned him a reputation for being a well-respected practice in the community.

Dr. Mendleson is a native of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He attended Sydney Academy, Sydney, Nova Scotia, graduating with Honours.

After high school, he attended Mount Allison University Sackville, New Brunswick, obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree. He then graduated from the University of Waterloo with his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1974.

Dr. Mendleson is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) and the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists (NSAO).

Dr. Nearing

Dr. I. A. Mendleson would like to introduce his Associate in Optometry, Dr. Megan Nearing, working at his Upper Tantallon practice.

Dr. Nearing was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She attended Oxford School and Saint Patrick’s High School. After high school, she attended Acadia University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biology and Kinesiology.

She then graduated with Dean’s Honours from the University of Waterloo with her Doctor of Optometry degree in 2010. During her studies, she was awarded the Alcon Award in Ocular Physiology in 2007. As part of her training, Dr. Nearing completed an internship in ocular disease and therapeutics at the John Kenyon American Eye Institute.

Dr. Nearing is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists and the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists. She actively participates in continuing education courses to remain current in on-going research and developments in the field of optometry. In her spare time, she enjoys playing squash, rock climbing, hiking, and travelling.

Dr. Nearing is excited to be able to return home to Nova Scotia. She is looking forward to growing her patient base in the community and to meeting all her patients and their families. Dr. Nearing is accepting new patients with no referral necessary. Call today to book your appointment.

Dr. Beaumont

Dr. I. A. Mendleson would like to introduce his Associate in Optometry, Dr. Virginia Beaumont, to his Upper Tantallon practice.

Dr. Beaumont is a native of Edgetts Landing, New Brunswick. She attended Dalhousie University from 2001-2004 studying Biology, before going to the University of Waterloo for Optometry. She graduated from the UW Doctor of Optometry program in 2008 with Honours. As part of her training, she completed an internship in ocular pathology and therapeutics at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Centre in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Following graduation, Virginia practiced in Calgary, Alberta for 4 years before returning to The Maritimes.

Dr. Beaumont is a member of the Canadian Optometry Association (COA) and the Nova Scotia Association of Optometrists (NSAO). She is an active Rotarian and a member of the Harbourside Rotary Club in Halifax. She also received an honorary Paul Harris award for her service with the Calgary Sacree Rotary club.

In her spare time, Dr. Beaumont is an avid reader and enjoys travelling, volleyball, and cooking. She is happily accepting new patients and their families, no referral necessary. Call today to book your appointment.

Susan King, our friendly and knowledgeable Licensed Optician, will assist you with your choice of designer frames and lenses to ensure you receive accurate quality manufactured materials and frames that are best suited for your eyes and lifestyle.

Susan has worked with Dr. Mendleson & Associates in Optometry as a Licensed Optician for the past 18 years. She received her education and qualifications through the Nova Scotia College of Dispensing Opticians.

Susan is a past executive member of the Nova Scotia Society of Dispensing Opticians (NSSDO), serving the opticians of Nova Scotia.
